Children - Age 3 to Grade 6
Lake Harriet UMC understands and celebrates that children are a vital part of the body of Christ. Our church seeks to provide opportunities for kids to know God, to claim their worth as children of God, and to reach out and serve others. Through discussion, study, play, music, and worship we encourage our youngest members to actively pursue a life of faith.
We encourage families to worship together Sunday mornings at 9am or 11:11am. Worshiping together gives your kids a chance to learn the language of praise, reminds the body of Christ of the hope & joy that children bring to community worship, and allows everyone to experience a taste of the Kingdom of God. We provide crayons, Children’s Bulletins, and books in the rear of the church as worship aides for our young members. Also, there is an opportunity for children to leave with Eleanor Christiansen for a kid’s worship moment in the Reception Room on all Sunday mornings except for the 1st Sunday of the month. We encourage kids to sit with their families on the 1st Sunday of the month and receive communion together during worship.
During the Enrichment Hour (10am-11am) Sunday mornings September-May, we offer three opportunities for kids to “Dig Deeper and Get Connected.” All of these classes take place in the upper floor of the Education Wing located at the east end of our building.
- For babies ages 0-3: the Nursery will be open AND we will be offering PB&J (Parents, Babies, & Jams) for parents and children. In PB&J, our experienced teachers will lead the group in discussion, song, and movement with our youngest members. Held in room 203.
- For children ages 3-3rd grade: Godly Play. Godly Play is a Montessori-style program that invites children to enter into the biblical story in a creative way. Kids from 3yrs-Kindergarten meet in room 204 and kids in grades 1-3 meet in room 205.
- For kids in 4-6th grades: Explore. This discussion-based classroom invites kids to experience the Bible and related topics through games, cooking, artwork, storytelling, and other avenues. Explore meets in room 206.
We also offer a number of other opportunities for fun and enrichment during the school year through the children’s choirs- GodsKids and Cherub Choir, seasonal programs, and summer camps.
