Outreach to Community, State, and World

Lake Harriet United Methodist Church supports and/or participates in 60 outreach and mission organizations throughout the community, state, and world. The Family Services Group visions, coordinates, and administers many of these activities.

You are invited to participate in the many activities throughout the year. You also may consider being a member of the Family Services Group!

Here's some activities coordinated by the Group

  • Food Packaging - Feed my Starving Children - Ages 5 and up
  • Snack Bundles - Cornerstone Shelter - Ages 3 to 12
  • Donations and Connections to Orphanage in Sierra Leone - All ages
  • UMCOR Breakfast - Food Preparation & Serving - All ages
  • Preschool Developmental Toys Drive - Collection and Celebration Event - all ages

Coins for Kids

Toss your change in a collection jar placed throughout the church. Money goes toward a specific cause. This is a good way to introduce the concept of offering and stewardship to children.

Sponsor Youth on Service Trips

Involve your youngsters in older youth's experiences through sponsorship.

Donate or Deliver Food to the Joyce Foodshelf

Joyce United Methodist Church, located in the Uptown neighborhood, operates a food shelf for familys in need. You can purchase groceries and have your children place them on the shelf outside the sanctuary. If you have a car, you can volunteer to deliver the to Joyce Foodshelf. Someone takes groceries weekly.

Provide a Home-cooked Meal to Members

Church members dealing with health issues, deaths in the family, or new babies often welcome a home-cooked meal! Have your children help to prepare and deliver the meal.

Escort a Church Member to Services

There are elderly church members who wold love to attend worship but have no transortation. Brighten someone's week by helping them join us for worship and interacting with the young people in your family.

Make a Birthday Bundle

Have your children put together a birthday gift bag to give to a local child to celebrate their special day. Birthday Bundles are delivered through food shelves to families in need. Bags can include treats like crayons, small stuffies, paperback books, and fruit snacks. Find out more on the Cheerful Givers Web site.

Be a friend to a Senior Citizen

Offering friendship to seniors is rewarding and simple. Some ways to create ties are yardwork, sharing a batch of freshbaked cookies, decorate their door for the holidays, shop together, share your children's artwork and celebrate their birthday.
