Faith 5

Faith 5 is for kids, spouses, roommates, friends and grandparents. This discipline has something to offer everyone.

What is the Faith 5?

All members of our congregation are invited to participate in a new spiritual discipline called the Faith 5. Don’t let the term “spiritual discipline” turn you off. Faith 5 is simple and meaningful and is made up of the following steps once your household is gathered together:
  1. Sharing your highs and lows from the day
  2. Read a scripture verse together
  3. Relate the scripture to your highs and lows for the day
  4. Pray for your highs/lows, your family, the world
  5. Bless one another

Take-out boxes are available for households to take home and use during their Faith 5 time. A candle, a journal & pen and the next few weeks’ Bible verses will provide you with all the materials you need to get started. When at all possible, the Bible verses will be tied to the theme for the sermon the following week so your theological wheels will already be turning when you arrive at worship on Sunday!

Whether a personal devotion or a chance for a family to stay in touch and share details of their lives with each other, Faith 5 is one way we are encouraging members of LHUMC to take home our beliefs and see how God touches all aspects of our lives.

Why the Faith 5?

Encouraging faith conversations at home. Linking daily life more closely to Sunday worship. So many of us are faithful in our attendance on Sunday mornings but hunger for meaning and purpose during the rest of the week. The Faith 5 encourages us to practice and learn about faith each day, with readings that are connected to the following Sunday’s worship focus. It can help to create deeper connections within families and within the greater church community.

If we are all participating in the Faith 5, it means all of us will be reading similar scriptures and can have informed discussions about what we learn in weekly worship. Think of how rich our conversations could be!

How are you supported in the Faith 5?

Every Wednesday, during our dinner in Fellowship Hall, there will be a table staffed by Lisa or Eleanor where you can come with questions, concerns, ideas, and to connect with other families who are participating with the Faith 5.

When it is time to receive the new two-month supply of scripture readings, there will be a table in the Commons where you are encouraged to chat with other families as well as ask questions or for advice on how to keep the Faith 5 going in your home. The current scripture passages are also on the Web here.

You are always welcome to contact Lisa or Eleanor directly with your questions or suggestions. If you would like to pick up a take out box, please contact Eleanor Christiansen.
