Lake Harriet UM Friday Playroom
2011-2012 Calendar and Parent Information
•We will meet these Fridays:
Sept. 9, 16, 23, 30 Feb. 3, 10, 17, 24
Oct. 7, 14, 28 March 2,9,16,23
Nov. 4,11, 18 April 13, 20, 27
Dec. 2, 9, 16 May 4, 11, 18
Jan. 6, 13, 20, 27
•Please make first half of the year payment on our first Friday, Sept. 9. $130 per child, made out to Friday Playroom. Let me know if you’d like a different payment schedule.$180/child will be due in January.
•Our morning drop-off is at 9:30, and pick-up is at 12:30. Each Friday consists of lots of playtime, a snack, large muscle time, stories, and a project when age appropriate. Our purpose is social, with the younger kids simply enjoying some time with their peers and without their parents. The older kids who have more pre-school experience work better with a little more structure to their morning.
•Each classroom has a teacher and a rotating volunteer parent. If it is your day to volunteer, please arrive around 9:15, no later than 9:25. You will be on the schedule approximately every 5-6 weeks. Parent volunteers are not placed in classrooms with their own children.
•Each week there will be 5 parent volunteers and one on-call parent. If you are the on-call parent, arrive at Playroom as if you are working that morning. Once everyone has arrived and checked in, you are free to leave. It isn’t often that the on-call person needs to stay, but it does happen. The parent you covered for will then work your next assigned date.
•The schedule of volunteers will come out for the whole year. If an assigned date doesn’t work for you, please use the roster to trade with someone and let me know who will be working. Because parents are not scheduled to work in their own child’s room, I need to have time to rearrange the class assignments. The program only works at such a low cost if everyone does her/his part and works within the rotating shifts. In the event of an illness, you will need to find a trade. The on-call person is for Friday morning illness and emergencies only. If the on-call person works your day, you will work for them on their next assigned day.
•If you are scheduled to work on a Friday and have other kids at home, please make a plan for them while you work. We ask all of our volunteers for the same amount of time and attention to the kids in the classrooms, and it can be difficult and distracting when you have additional kids to watch.
•Friday Playroom cost is $10/child/Friday. You will be billed for several months at a time for convenience. If you would rather pay monthly, let me know. Please write checks to Lake Harriet Friday Playroom.
•If you find you need to change your plans and leave the Friday Playroom program, please give us at least a one month notice so we can try to fill the spot with someone on the waiting list. It also changes the volunteer schedule, so we need time to cover that as well.
•Pack a lunch and beverage for your child each Friday.
•Kids will have a snack during the morning. Individual teachers will let you know how they manage the snack schedule. Juice is provided at snack time.
•Kids will have a cubby in their classroom for messages and paperwork, however email is the preferred method of correspondence when possible. Please let me know if you don’t regularly check your email so I can get you a paper copy of schedules, etc.
•Registration for next year will be in spring. Preference for placement goes to siblings, members of LHUMC, and then to kids on the wait list.
