Every year, several hundred minor-age students across the Twin Cities find themselves suddenly alone and without a place for the night. Because emergency shelters are too often full or far from their schools, 1 in every 8 will spend nights on the street — prey for drug dependence and sexual coercion.
SafeNights is a licensing a program to help individual communities offer localized temporary shelter programs for their students. By assuring them shelter and minimizing disruption in school and local supports, our goal is to help students maintain stable elements in their lives, preserve privacy, and build resiliency during the onset of crises.
