This fall, the Adult Learning and Spiritual Enrichment Team (ALSET) will offer a choice of small group discussion series for Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings:
- “A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota”, by Sun Yung Shin;
- “Short Stories by Jesus”, by Amy-Jill Levine; or
- “Falling Upward”, by Richard Rohr.
In “A Good Time for the Truth: Race in MN”, sixteen of Minnesota’s best writers provide a range of perspectives on what it is like to live as a person of color in Minnesota. They give readers a splendid gift: the gift of touching another human being’s inner reality, behind masks and veils and politeness. They bring us generously into experiences that we must understand if we are to come together in real relationships.
In “Short Stories by Jesus”, the author takes readers back in time to understand Jesus’ parables as they might have been received and understood by their original Jewish audiences.
In “Falling Upward”, the author seeks to help readers understand the tasks of the two halves of life, showing them that those who’ve experienced a fall or failure are the only ones who understand “up.”
We hope these discussion opportunities on Sunday mornings or Wednesday evenings will provide great fellowship and deeper understandings as we seek to welcome, inspire, and nourish our communities to be the hands and feet of God.
The size and number of the small groups will be determined by the number of individuals who sign up. If you have any interest to use your gifts in facilitating one of these small groups, please indicate this within the sign-up form below or contact Pastor Melanie or a member of ALSET.
Books will be available at a suggested donation of $10.00.
