The Outreach Team has been busy connecting with our partner organizations to find out ways we can engage and support our community. We have several ways this month that you are invited to participate as we continue to find ways to serve our community together!
November Winter GLOVE Drive
Please help The Dignity Center provide warm gloves for our neighbors in need! During the Month of November, the LHUMC Outreach Team is helping collect gloves for the Dignity Center. There will be a basket in the LHUMC entry way labeled Dignity Center and you can just leave donated gloves in the basket and the Outreach Team will deliver them to the Dignity Center. Thank you for your help! ** Larger Glove Sizes are especially needed **
Give a holiday gift to a neighbor! Sign up for the Wreath of Love this month.

Wreath of Love is an annual holiday gift program. Through the coordination of Trust, Inc., LHUMC joins other south Minneapolis churches to purchase gifts for our neighbors living in long-term care. Most facilities choose residents who don’t have enough specific family support to receive Christmas or holiday presents.
LHUMC has a shopping list for 10 adults who live at Redeemer Residence on 31st Street and Lyndale Avenue South. Each LHUMC volunteer can choose a recipient and purchase a small gift of $5-10 and a larger gift of $10-20. Gifts need to be purchased by December 6, 2020.
How to volunteer for the Wreath of Love:

  • Sign-up using this SignUp Genius link or find the link on the LHUMC website and sign up for one of ten recipients
  • Karin Schurrer-Erickson will connect with you via email or phone and share the individual’s name, shopping ideas, clothing sizes, and preferences.
  • Purchase your items and return them to the LHUMC lobby Wreath of Love Bin by December 6, 2020.
TRUST is a nonprofit coalition of 20 South Minneapolis churches pools resources to support work they couldn’t do on their own – chores for Seniors, a grief group, volunteering for Meals on Wheels or Loaves and Fishes. LHUMC has been a TRUST partner since 1989.
Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative – Working to End Homelessness

If you are interested in learning more about how you can help be a part of the housing solution here in MN, there are two upcoming dates to put on your calendar.

  1. Sunday November 15 – Join Beacon leaders, clergy and supporters from across our Collaborative for a socially distanced, outdoor rally at the State Capitol at 2:00p. on November 15. The rally “Dwelling in Hope: Faith Communities in Action” is to keep that vision front and center for our newly-elected legislators. There are two ways to attend. You can gather at the State Capitol at 1:45 p.m. for a socially-distanced, masks-on rally. We’ll hear from clergy, elected officials, and people who know the challenges of unstable and unaffordable housing in Minnesota. Or, if you’re unable to join us in person, you can follow along via Facebook Live on Beacon’s page (like it today at: However you join, please RSVP today to stand up for home at: event/dwelling-in-hope/
  2. Join Beacon’s monthly “rent is due” action calls the first day (or thereabouts) of each month. The next on is on December 1, the meetings are virtual for about 30 minutes and there is a call to action at each meeting. Here’s the link to register for December 1:
